A controller sprint lockout is a known Terrible Lizards launch issue. Steam patch 1.0.9, dated October 30, 2026, lists a fix for controllers becoming unable to sprint. If you are playing the Steam full game, check its update state before treating the problem as a difficult movement challenge or a faulty controller.
First confirm the sprint action in your current control layout. The exact button depends on the active scheme; there is no verified universal button assignment here to substitute for the game's own controls screen. The Steam fix also does not confirm that PS5, Xbox or other PC storefronts received the same build at the same time.
Distinguish a binding problem from a lockout
A binding problem means you are pressing a button that is not assigned to the action in your current layout. A lockout means the action stops responding even though you are using its assigned input.
Open the controls settings and locate Sprint. If you changed your layout, use the current assignment rather than a remembered default. Then, in a safe area where you can move, compare walking with the assigned sprint action.
The important observation is whether sprint never worked under that layout or worked earlier and stopped after an event. That distinction helps narrow the problem without inventing a cause. Neither case alone proves that the controller hardware is defective.
Check the full-game update on Steam
For Steam players, the relevant version baseline is 1.0.9 for the full game. Confirm that an available update has been installed and that you are launching Terrible Lizards rather than its separate demo application.
The demo's 0.9.76 patch history is different. Updating or reinstalling the demo does not establish that the campaign installation contains the controller sprint fix. Likewise, the general Steam store page confirms the game, but the update state of the installed copy is what matters to your current attempt.
After updating, recheck sprint before committing to a long chase. The patch explicitly addresses the lockout category, but no personal test or guaranteed recovery of every existing checkpoint is claimed here.

The sprint correction belongs to the full-game Steam patch.
Note whether other controls stopped working too
If looking, jumping or other actions also fail after a conversation, describe that wider symptom. Patch 1.0.9 separately lists fixes for some buttons remaining locked after a call with Stella. A single missing sprint action and several unavailable controls are different observations, even if both interrupt traversal.
Do not assume the game is asking you to complete a sprint-dependent escape at walking speed. First verify whether the action is available. Repeating jumps while a required movement action is locked can make a technical fault look like a route you have not learned.

Record the conversation location when more than one control becomes unresponsive.
If sprint remains unavailable
Record your platform and storefront, installed version, controller model, active layout and the event immediately before the failure. State which other actions still respond and whether sprint had worked earlier in the session.
On a console, check the installed update independently rather than using the Steam version number as proof of a fix. On Steam, say explicitly if the fault persists after 1.0.9. That information distinguishes a continuing report from an older launch complaint.
There is no verified mandatory workaround here involving save deletion, reinstalling drivers or replacing the controller. Start with the binding and applicable update, then report a persistent lockout with the exact scene and controls affected.
